Default quick motor swap questions

Just want to verify from the truck guys before I drop a couple grand. Replacing the motor in an 05 Chevy half ton 4x4. Came with the iron 5.3 and I'm looking at two motors to drop in it. One is a direct drop-in Gen III 5.3, same as the current motor. The other is a 08 5.3 shortblock. Tried looking for an LQx but couldn't find one that I can afford right now.

The 08 shortblock is local, less mileage and about $500 cheaper. So to swap the newer Gen IV motor over do I only need to hookup a Lingenfelter reluctor module? Other than that it should all be direct fit right?

Then which cam do I use, the one in the truck already or the 08? Is there anything else I should ask or know before going to pick up the newer motor?

Thanks in advance!
