A rubber mallet is going to obsorb the blow when you hit the wrench. A metal hammer will send a vibrating shock threw the wrench to the fan nut which helps loosen it. Its kind of the same principle as a impact gun. The rapid hits work better than a constant force for trying to loosen a bolt or nut.

use a big cresent wrench and a hammer(not rubbuer mallet). hit it fast and hard to your left as you're facing the truck. it'll work

I'd lose the crecent wrench (I assume you mean adjustable wrench as Crecent is just a brand name for their line of tools) as they tend to strip fasteners REAL easy. Get the right 6 point box end wrench on there and it will not only resist stripping better, but will transfer more of the hammer shock to the fastener as well.

well i got out there ands started hitting it and it just didnt seem to go over very well being i live in suburbia and didnt want to wake up the neighborhood association and get a dirty letter so it will wait for the morning!!
