Questions for STS turbo users!!!
#1
Well after mant hours lurking and listening I have decided that e-fans, different intake systems, and exhaust can wait!! I am really thinking about the STS system. That would make the other mods kind of a waste of money. The questions I have are probably simple enough so here goes. I am not worried about the thing sucking up water but am worried about road debris and salt messing up the unit or causing massive corrosion problems. I live in Wisconsin so it snows from December until April some times and the salt can be hell. How about a gaurd something like the skid plates on the Z71 for the trans and oil pan? On STS's website they talk about the system being 5psi, are there upgrades for more psi, or just adjustments to be made from inside the truck? I would like to run 5-8 psi depending on situations. I need to know more about the adjustability of the system really and how that works. Water or methonol injection, is this included or an upgrade? Tuning, they say that Nelson performance does this service for them. I have heard good things about Nelson here, so what your guys experience? And for now the last question is the stock injectors, will they support more than 5psi of boost?
I plan on doing this to my 2002 5.3l with 40,000mi basically stock, well taken care of truck.
Thanks in advance all!!!!!!

yes everything but the efans would be worthless. Yes you can run more then 5psi, you will get a few guys on here to give you all the info you want to know. I would suggest giving STS a call and telling them what you want to do and they can match a specific turbo for you. good luck and have a great time.

The base kit can work fine on your truck with proper tuning BUT IMO I would upgrade the injectors and get either a methanol kit of an intercooler also...
For the boost you want to run you HAVE to get some type of cooling and fuel supplimentation going on or else you are playing with fire.
Jerry2500 has a very simple system and it works great for him and it sounds like you are trying to do something similar IE not push the envelope like I do. LOL
IMO, the STS kit with 43lb injectors and a meth kit OR intercooler and custom tuning will do wonders for your truck. If you want something a lil more agressive then the GT35 upgrade may work well but I don't recomend it unless you plan on doing a high stall converter.
Road salt and such should't pose much of a problem. I would contact Rick directly for that question though. Regular road grime from winter driving will be NP if you keep the drycharger or new "sock" on the filter
This is F8L btw. I'm on the Synergy Motorsports computer.

F8L thanks for the feed back, you are right I really do not want to make this truck a hairy beast. I plan on doing what I have always done with the truck, drive it every day as a commute vehicle and tow my boat when needed as well as hauling dirt, rocks, trees, and other crap all over town! It would just be nice to have some real SAFE useable power to have fun with since this is my only vehicle other than my wife's car. Her car now is a 98 Altima and the thing is guttless, she'll be getting a 2005 Altima next year with the 255hp V6 so.................So the methanol or water injection is an upgrade. I guess I will have to contact someone at STS for more info. Thanks again man.

Yes, methanol injection is an upgrade. You can get it from STS or a few other sources. I have an Alky Control unit. Any of the ones in the $400 range will do the job. Labor on install may kill ya though
Just make sure you get a REALLY good tune for the turbo once you start going over 5-6psi. Turbo cars are difficult to tune for a novice so if your tuner has never tuned a turbocharged truck before I would stay away from them and have someone else do it like Allen Nelson or somebody.
