Default Question for everone with LS1 Edit

i am thinking about getting it and i was wondering how hard it is use? i downloaded the manual and looked it over. it seems like it is a little confusing.

when you buy edit do you need atap/eflive? what exactly are they?

when you make adjustments to your truck does it have to be plugged in, or do you make the adjustments and then go load it onto your truck?

and how do you know what exactly to change? i have changed shift points with my hypertech (which i heard wont even compare to edit) and i think i found a good combinatio. but i know edit allows you to change A LOT more then that. how do you know what to change and how much to change it.

EDIT is not user friendly at all. You do need some kind of scan tool to know what to change with EDIT.

I think www.hptuners.com would be well worth checking out and holding out for if it's as much as it's hyped up to be.

it seems like it would be a good one. with that it has the scanner thing, does that mean you wouldn't have to get atap/eflive?

if i read that right you can program 2 cars with the one version.
(VCM Suite is split up into 2 main packages. VCM Suite Standard which supports 1-2 vehicles and VCM Suite Pro which supports 3 or more vehicles. Each vehicle type you purchase will allow you to reprogram any number of vehicles of that model and year. You are only "locked" to the model/years that you purchase.)

the only think i dont like is that you can only program those year/model cars or trucks. is ls1 edit like that or can you un program one vechicle and program any other ls1 engine?

when I bought my edit, I downloaded the Hypertech program off the truck and worked off it for a while with edit untill I could get it tuned.
then I unloaded the HPPIII from the computer and downloaded the edit program thta I had copid of the HPPIII and it was basically like having an HPPIII but with edit.
just a suggestion untill you can figure out what you can and cant do

EDIT is lots worse when it comes to licensing. You buy EDIT and it is locked to ONE VIN nuber. You get 6 months of updates, which chances are, you will never get one. If you want to program another car, you have to send your cable back along with a check for 200 (150 for the added VIN, and 50 for their hours worth of work and to send it back to you). If you want to get an upgraded version of the software, you have to shell out another 100. If you have an 03 or newer truck you have to shell out even more on an additional cable so you can hook it up to the PCM directly. They are lazy and not customer oriented. They have had a monopoly on the market for years, know it, and take advantage of it. If it were me, I wouldn't give them another dime of my money just because of the **** raping they do.

How do I really feel? Like I was **** raped with no vasoline when I went to upgrade my EDIT.

1 week after I sent off for the upgrade, I saw the hptuners stuff coming out. For $75 more dollars than I had already sent carputing, I could have gotten the HPTuner stuff. I could have had a program that isn't full of bugs, and has standard windows features.

EDIT still has lots of bugs, and just now came out with a copy/paste function. You still can't use the hotkeys that any other windows app uses for copy/paste, but at least it's there.

EDIT is one of those apps, you have to have if you need it. I think Carputing knows that and takes advantage of it in as many ways as possible.

Imagine my frustration, I was going to try and wait out the version that works with the new model trucks under the dash, but when I asked about it, I was told, and I quote "it might be a while", when they had just told me that they were working on it and had almost figured it out. My thoughts ....

OK .. I'm off my now

The easiest way to use edit is with a scan tool. The best is Ease, then elive, then autotap. There are several other new ones but these three have the major market. On ebay you can find them listed all the time. The ones that have the most info are the GM specific scan tools. If you have a laptop with Ease, you can hook it up to the pcm, run a simple twenty minute drive (preferably with room for some spirited 70-110 mph romps), drive home an play back the resutls. It will show up to 64 functions including LTFT, O2 levels, advance at WOT, part throttle opeations, etc. When you have those types of info, then you can start making changes. One of the biggest problems edit users run into when makeing changes is not looking at LTFT and %usage of injectors. When the duty cycle exceeds 80% of the injectors, your edit changes start going the wrong way.
Hope this helps.

i see that you are from michigan, i live in hartland Michigan. if your not fimilar with it, it is by highland, howell, white lake, fenton.

i was thinking about buying edit but i am haveing second thoughts on it. so what i am undrstanding is that edit maries itself to your vin like a predator. or is it like a hypertech where you can set stuff back to stock and go use it on another truck of the same year.

thanks a lot everyone for giving me your imputs on edit.
