Default question about stock 6.0 fuel system

I am wondering if the unit on the fuel rail on the driver side is a pressure regulator? I was also wondering if that is the case, if I can get away with running my A1000 fuel pump from my fuel cell to the rails and this stock regulator will bleed off extra pressure back to the tank with via the second smaller line.

Or am I way off in my thinking?

If I was to run a aftermarket regulator, does it go on the inlet or return side? Not sure I really understand the mechanics of this system...

Thanks in advance,
Taylor

yes...that device IS the fuel pressure regulator, and should function in the way you describe (that's pretty much what it's doing with the stock pump)

Don't use the stock regulator with an A1000 pump, it's too strong and may overpower the regulator. The right way to do it is going to be get some aftermarket fuel rails, run the -10 line up to a y-block that splits the fuel into to -8 lines and into the back of each rail. Off the front of the rail, run -8's out into an A1000 regulator and out of the regulator run the -6 back to the cell. The regulator is always the last thing in line (except on the returnless cars, different subject). Easier is just a -10 to a -8 adapter into the drivers side fuel rail, a cross over -8 line in the front and the regulator (again, the A1000 regulator) off the back of the passenger rail. Just plug the unused side of the regulator and run the -6 back to the tank. FYI, the whole system is a little overkill unless you're planning on 650+ rwhp, the stock lines will work find with a Bosch inline or a big Walbro inline or even an intank, your stock regulator would work as well too with those. If you are going to try and run the A1000 with the stock regulator I'd use a voltage regulator if I were you as at low RPM there is going to be too much fuel trying to return if you're running a constant 14V to the pump.

Thanks for the information. Does it make any difference that the A1000 is pushing the fuel over 18 feet to the rails? I would think this would slow it down a good bit? What kind of voltage regulator? Is there a specific one you can reccomend?

I'm only planning on 400 rwhp NA and some juice on top of that. But I got a good deal on the A1000 and aeromotive is un-questionable as far as reliability...

I definatly don't want to run aftermarket rails yet. I was going to plumb it for 1/2 primary line and 3/8 return with -8 and -6 respectivly and then just choking it down at the stock rails to make it easily upgradeable later... I am assuming that the return line does go all the way back to the tank to completely circulate the fuel (cooling maybe?) is this right?

Pesonally for that power I'd sell the Aeromotive and just get a bosch or walbor inline, then you just relieved all of your issues. The voltage regulators are made by aeromotive and a few other companies, generally over $200 so there went the smoking deal you got on the A1000.

I see your point. Can you answer the last paragraph of my last post please?
Thanks for the help.
