Default Question about my old 4.8 silverado?

About 2 year's ago I had a 4.8 silverado extended cab sport side. It had a 4.8 i put a Hypertech, K&N intake, throttle body spacer, 40 serie's flowmaster man it sounded sick. My question is I was never able to beat a stock 5.3 Wtf was wrong. I was a good driver in the truck so I know that was not the problem. I was just curious why it never beat a stock 5.3. I traded the truck for the car in my sig. Any info is appreciated.

most likely the weight of the extcab was killing the little 4.8. We have also discussed around here multiple time that the 2 chamber flow really doesn't flow that well and just makes alot of noise but no real kick. also the hyper is good for shifts and stuff but really doesnt do a whole lot for actual HP or TQ which is what you need to get that thing rollin. TB spacers also are usually a waste of money. Really I just think the weight just hurt you.

I have a 4.8L and have no problems beating a stock 5.3L
gearing was probably another factor.

Ah yes. I have the same problem. When I opened up the exhaust I lost some low end torque. It just won't get up off the line. Couple that with the added weight of the extended cab, a 3:42 gear and it just... frustrates you to no end.

I try not to mess with other GM trucks. Kinda like playing against your own team. It also gets me to thinking too much! There are plenty of ricers, Fords and Dodges out there.

still it's the weight, the tq from the 5.3 is quite a bit more then 4.8. that is what is killing you.

The 5.3 has a lot more torque than the 4.8 does also...

sounds like that open exhuast was killing your low end like mentioned my truck rb 4.8 4x4 well run exactly the same as a 5.3 ext cab 4x4 or a 2wd with the higher gearing

What year was your 4.8? Maybe it was a weak 99. About two years ago I had a semi mooded 01 Ext Cab 4.8 with the following mods:
UPD intake
HPP3
Dual Magnaflow with H pipe
3.73 posi
This set up got a me best time of 15.51 at 8Xmph.
I had no problem beating stock Ext Cab 5.3's. BTW, this my fience's truck now.

5.3 and 4.8 regcabs is gonna be a closer race than two extcabs. it just has to do with the weight. plus u probabaly had 3.42s and the trucks u raced had 3.73s
