Default Question about the 4wheel drive..

I had this question asked to me, i really dont know

I am not convinced that the T-case will make the switch while under power.

shane do you know how htat front drive axles are locked and unlocked i.e. auto hubs or locks at the center?? or is the front always locked in ?

if the front does unlock then probably your t-caes will drive the front drive shaft but with the front hubs or whatever your truck has in this case will not drive the tires.

I have the push button Autotrac, and mine doesn't shift in or out of 4WD while under power. I have to actually let up off the gas for a sec and then it will kick in/out of 4WD.
The reason I know is because mine make a growling noise when its in 4WD, and nice and smooth when in 2WD.
Not sure on the rest though.

The t-case WILL unlock under load

The front axles are locked at the diff by a thermo-electric motor....the half-shafts are always turning

If the t-case is locked in but the axle is not locked the front wheels ARE NOT being powered....and vice versa

My two auto-trac trucks never unlocked when I was on the gas... I always had to back out at least for a fraction of a second.

I'm not sure what was/wasn't unlocking, but it would still keep the light on, along with that "four wheel drive load" on the drivetrain.
