Default pulling valve covers

Been having power issues with the truck along with a loud tic noise mixed in with the normal sewing machine noise of the valve train..is loud and sounds awful. I have changed my fuel filter, ran sea foam, changed pcv valve, changed plugs, tracked down a miss fire on cylinder 5(sparkplug porceline was cracked) and still runs slow. I am thinking about pulling the valve covers to inspect the rockerarm assembly and push rods. I have been reading my GM Perfomance book and it doesnt look that hard. Will I need new gaskets or adhesive for gaskets or any special tools?....I have a basic tool set. I have never pulled the valve covers off before so before I get all greasy again and tear into it was just wondering if you all have any helpful advice.
-Thanks in advance

real easy, and no need for new gaskets..
just follow the directions..
remove coil packs, and then loosen the bolts on the covers, and remove..
then you can go to work inspecting

Thanks 01 Thunder, I will probably do this Sunday. If I dont see anything obviously wrong Ill just throw it together and take it down and have a compression test done. It is just awful off of the line from what it used to be. I cant get below a 3.0 60ft on the gtech I just bought with my weight calibrated at 5000 lbs (im lighter i know). I cant even chirp the tires from the line with my 2500 stall! When I romp it, I hear the intake breath in a big woosh of air and then it goes forward slowly about a second later.
