Default pro's and cons of a UDP

i more or less know the pro's of the udp. more power.

however, from past experiences with smaller motor's, the idea of udp's being used has lead to oil leaks and sometimes engine failure due to them using this as a counter/balance device. however, i don't hear about failure issues on the lsx side of it, or the people do not say anything if something does go wrong.

i know there is a trade off with everything that you do to a motor.

instead of the good side, lets hear the bad side of it.

only real con is installing it while the engine is still in the truck.

Co-ordinate installing one with a cam swap, imo.

I've got an SLP UDP on my Sierra and no issues whatsoever, and have lightly contemplated putting one on my Silverado now too, but it has a much rougher idle and a bit of surging in stop and go with the cam that's in it, which even with stock balancer it tends to dim the headlights at night when surging and I'm a bit apprehensive that the UDP on this motor might make the dimming worse...? What do you guys think?

I put one on my 4.8 20k miles ago. So far so good. I mainly did it to slow down the accesories from the gear change. 3.73 to 4.56.

made a noticable difference in performance.

Should work well with your current mods, I'd go for it if your staying N/A
If you have the proper balancer puller and tools shouldn't be to hard to install

most people say that it should be a last bolt on & having put one on my 4.8, I agree with that. I didn't notice any improvement after installing mine. Make sure you use the chrysler pulley remover(I think it's a power steering pump pulley remover) that's available for rent from a parts store or use a 3 jaw puller. I had a hell of a time removing the stock one with a 2 jaw puller. I installed an alternator pulley at the same time & didn't experience any drop in voltage.

I say put that $200 toward a circle d converter
