gmc5.3,all of the supercharger kits have pros and cons.No one leaves them alone Radix and Whipplecharger with increased boost are extremely hard on transmissions and rearends because of the instant boost at low rpms,Prochargers and Vortecs, because of the high rpm boost they are capable making are tipacally engine breakers.Unless you can afford to replace expensive parts you probably shouldn't mess around with either type.I know the cool factor of having a supercharged truck is strong,but living with a bolt-ons truck is a lot cheaper.

I had a problem with surging at idle with 16-18lbs of boost. It would blow the tires off at 80 like nothing. I took it off to go with a juice setup. I had a stock bottom end and it lasted for awhile. I took the blower off, started tuning the juice, and the pistons had a little problem. I believe the motor was already hurt.
I made a good amount of power. If I had to do it again I would leave the 12lb pulley on and put a small amount of squeeze. I would also strongly recommend a D-1SC, you can use a larger pulley and have more belt wrap around the pulley. I would also suggest a Z06 cam, it would cut down the surging problem and it also a very blower freindly (at least for centifugal blowers). Also stay with a small amount of juice. Someone posted a gain of over 90rwhp with a 40shot in the forced induction forum.

gmc5.3L....a buddy of mine that owned a Mustand 5.0 went through like 5 Vortec compressors (bearings and case cracks) before he gave up and sold the car, and EVERY Powerdyne supercharger I've seen has bearing problems
Black Blown 02...strickly for the 60' times at the track.....on the street I REALLY don't like to run in 4x4 because of things like corners so the juice would NEVER be used there.....but at the track I can drop it into 4x4 and spray it out of the hole in a straight line

At 7psi, you'd only be around 2psi at 3000 and 3-4 psi at 4500. So at those rpm's you'd be able to take pretty much what a stock engine would take.
Definately go with the D1SC.

I think 11-12 will be pretty safe with a good WIDEBAND tune. Do you plan on getting a wideband setup?
Ask around and find out what size pulley you'll need for your setup D1SC 11-12 psi, and buy it from Reichard Racing. Their pulley is sweet, and will lessen the chance of belt slip.

I have had an ARE H/C kit on ym truck with a ATI P1SC for about a year now. No problems at all. I have the smaller pulley, Lapole headers, 42lb injectors, and custom LS1 Edit tuning. The truck is fast, plenty of low end torque and it screams on the0 top end when spooled up. It is really pushing the limit of the stock tranny which is going to be gone pretty soon, got to get an upgrade
No problems with the P1SC, the D1SC is alot louder. Never measured how much boost, I need to go back up to LG and have them do a checkup and tune up sometime soon so we will see. Can't dyno either because its a AWD C3.

Yes...a wideband setup is in the future, as well as LS1Edit (cmotorsports is doing my tuning right now)
What kind of power numbers are you putting down??...and when can you feel the boost kick in (rpm) ??
