Default Problem with my Ford....

I know I know.... Ford truck message boards have yielded no replies in two days, and I'm just looking for ideas.

The vehicle in question is a 97 Expedition EB 4x4, and my 4x4 is not engaging. I've got the 4 position drive selector (2h, A4WD, 4h, and 4Lo). The A4WD light comes on when I put the selector in the corresponding position (not sure if it's actually working), but 4hi and 4lo don't seem to do anything. No light, no click, no clunk, and it's obvious it's not engaging. Wiring and Vaccume lines are all okay, and I'm starting to suspect the solenoid. Does anyone know of any way I can test it (the solenoid)? I suppose it could be the switch itself. I just want to eliminate as many possibilities as I can because it's gonna be a major chore to swap the Solenoid if that's it.

Well, in order for a married man to be able to spend half his income on his toys (all of which are GM products), he must make certain compromises. In other words, when the wife wants a ford, the wife gets a ford. lol.

slap a voltmeter on the switch (or the solenoid leads) and verify that the switch is actually switching

Dealer found it. The warranty I had covered all labor, but I had to pay for parts. I said screw it, I was selling it anyway. Didnt bother fixing it.

Man...you speak the truth.

Well, my money is on the switch at this point in time, but it's strange that the A4WD still works (at least the light comes on...).

Thanks guys, as I didn't get a single response on some ford boards in over 3 days, I really appreciate the help.
