Post Dyno Question
#1
So I went to MTI today to dyno my truck. It has elec. fans, K&N Gen II, HPP3, 160 thermo, and exhaust. I ended up getting 256 rwhp. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> Here is my question, they dynoed in 3rd gear from 3000 to 5000 rpm because I had the HPP3. The limiter is at 128 mph and it cuts out at 5000 rpm in third because of the limiter. I was looking at the hp curve and it was still going up at 5000. I beleive our trucks continue going up til 6000. If they were to do a 2nd gear pull do, would it show more rwhp? Also, does 256 rwhp at 5000 sound right for my mods.? Thanks

You get more acurate numbers in 3rsd (1:1 gear raito) that in second. 2nd gear dynos usually show a few hp less than 3rd gear runs. The first time I dynoed mine I had the HPP and mine pulls up to about 5600 @ 128mph. You must have 3.42 gears or your tire size isnt correct. They do make power beyond 5k. I think peak on mine was around 5400. I would have to look back at my sheet to be completely sure though.

Try changing tire diameter on your programer. This will allow you to rev to the redline without hitting the topspeed limiter.Be sure to change back before you drive home. The highest horsepower are obtained using the higher gear because more horsepower is required to pull in that gear.whitt1

Yes I do have 3.42 gears. I did not think of changing the tire size to allow for a higher rev. That is a really good idea. Thanks for all the help guys.

If you have a stock cam, it will top out at about 5200 then nose dive at 5600. If you have a cam, it could pull past 6000. My LS6 cam gets to its peak at around 5200, but pulls the same numbers to 6200.
