Default is it possible to swap a 6.2 into a 2000 Silverado?

I searched and most swap info was about the NBS trucks. Is is possible to add a newer 6.2L engine/trans to an old body style truck like mine(2000 silverado 5.3L 4X4)? I thought about swaping in the 6.0L but might as well see if the newer engines/trans would work in these older trucks.

It will physically fit but you would need the trans, complete wiring harness (unless you want to hack yours up) and computer.

bolt the newer 6.2 to your current trans. get the stock computer retuned for the new engine, and you will need a converter box for the reluctor wheel. It can be done, and its not that difficult. I was going to go that route as well, but I plan on staying with the lq9 and adding a tvs 2300.

I guess another question to ask is it cost effective or would I be better off going with a 6.0(LQ4 or LQ9)? I'm going to find out as much as I can before attempting this. How many people on the forum have done the swap with a 1999-2002 Silverado ECSB?

I'm putting a GEN IV in my 01... As far as being cost effective, I don't see why it would cost any more than swapping in a GEN III except for the conversion harnesses/box and deleting the VVT or AFM if the engine you end up with has it... It's all known stuff these days, all readily available and pretty much bolt on and plug/play..

That's good to know. I did a search on this site and most of the info I found was for the NBS trucks(07+). Do you use this site or another for your info on the swap? Are you swaping engine/trans or just engine? I'd really like to use the new trans if it's worth it(power/dependability wise). The trans in my 2000 and 2003 SS was lacking.

Its much more cost effective to use a Gen III.

Gen IV carry a premium already, especially the 6.2 and the aluminum 6.0. You can probably find the iron 6.0 variations for reasonable prices. THEN, you have to look into the conversion parts and before you know it, you are hundreds deep into that.

58X to 24X module - 254.95

Knock Sensor Relocation Harness - 29.95
http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...gory_Code=C162

Cam Sensor Extension Harness - 24.95

VVT Delete - 123.99
DOD Delete - 304.99

THEN, if the new engine you are using has rectangular heads (which all Gen IVs do except for the hybrid 6.0) you have to use that intake and get a new 4 bolt throttle body or adapt your 3 bolt.

If I were you, I would just get an LQ9 and put some 799/243 heads on it and enjoy the torque! It would be easier with less headaches and less to go wrong.

Speartech has been the only company so far to put a 6l80e in a GMT-800. It didn't seem too easy. Hell it doesn't even seem easy to put a 6l80e in a GMT-900. Iamkeniff is one of the few that has made the swap, so it can be done. Your best bet in the transmission department would be to swap in a 4l80e which can be done with much less headache.

Hope this helped.

i have a Gen IV 5.3 in my 94 chevy. its not that hard, and its really not that costly if you was planning on doing a cam swap anyways.

58x to 24x 275.00
90mm TB 250-500 depending who you buy it from
take the knock sensor harness and extend the wires to reach to the side of the block
drill the knock sensor holes out with a 11/32nd and tap with a 10mmx1.5 tap
thread in your old knock sensors
swap over your flexplate
tune the ecm

its pretty simple.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out your link. My plan didn't involve a cam swap. I was just hoping to swap the engine/trans into the 2000 and maybe added headers, cai and a super charger down the road.

I did look up a few things on this site but I mostly did my own research and talked to people in the know.
