Default Possible or Not????

Ok guys, gotta big question.

What is the true capability of the 4.8L? I know several of the guys here with RCSB 5.3's running 12's all motor. Can a 4.8L N/A, run 12's or even low 13's. To my knowledge right now the top N/A 4.8 is around 13.80's +/-???? I don't see why the 4.8 couldn't hit 12's with the right setup of course, and it would take a considerable amount of weight reduction.

I've been considering a new project that would help me out in a few different ways, and originally was thinking about a RCSB 5.3 but the selection here is slim on those and for some reason a 4.8 build is kinda tempting to me. Plus I wouldn't feel so bad about swapping a 4.8 to a 6.0 in the future.

anyways, honest opinions guys, 4.8L, worth it or not? And its not a money issue, cause the difference between used 4.8's and 5.3's is not that much.

It's worth a shot Curtis. A 4.8 in a RC is not be that bad at all. I test drove one with 3.73s for the heck of it before I got the 05 and it felt pretty peppy- alot more than my 03 EC w/4.8 and 3.42s did.

its all on how much money your willing to spend, you can get your 4.8 into the 10's if you had enough money.

lol, granted. I'm talking mainly by doing similar mods as most of the guys here on the site would do, cam/heads/drivetrain/weight reduction/bolt-ons/etc........ Typical stuff.

I will say that the one time I had the priveldge of driving an 03 RCSB 4.8 with 3.42's, I was very impressed with the power.

Curtis, Im guessing you are talking abotu Daniels truck he doesnt ahve lt headers on it and he didnt do alot of weight reduction and he didnt ahve any head work done for that run. I think with a 3600 or so stall, tr224, head work and bump the CR up some, underdrive pulley, efans, CAI, lt headers, cal-tracs, Nelson tuning it or that guy you know and some stickies you should hit a low low 13 if Im not mistaken Daniel ran that 13.80 on street tires. Then when you get bored with that you can put nitrous on it

Ill be selling my DART heads in about 3 months so you could pick them up off me for cheaper than anywhere else and they arleady have the combustion chambers cleaned up to fight detonation they are 62cc heads so you could have em milled a little and bump your CR up to whatever you want. Just throwin that out there.

Well, we'll have to see what happens, but hopefully I'll ready to do something soon.

well if i had a 4.8 in my truck it would run 12's N/A lol

hell i had a 4.8 in an ecsb truck with all bolt-ons and tune going 14.9 at 95mph,84mph, at full weight with 80lbs per tire 18's and only thing i did diff. on the street to track was lower the tailgate.stock times were 17.2 at 84mph

not if you add 3000 stall .5,long tubes .2, cam .2, weight reduction .2, cutouts .3, short belt .2 hrmm looks like I could of taken off 1.6 seconds off my time that would of put me at 13.3 at around 100 mph maybe 104 that i run now in a rcsb truck.

Hey man i am there wit ya. In alot of ways i want to push the lil 4.8. If i can find a good deal on a 6.0 I will go with that, like the sig says. I think with the rite setup you coud go mid to low 13's just look at thunder, he has that 4.8 zinging

I've been wondering exactly what the little 4.8 will do as well. I've been considering just doing an ls1 swap but I kinda just want to "run what you brung" and stay with the 4.8. It doesn't have the torque that the other lsx engines have, but it feels very capable.
