Default Ported Oil Pump?'s

Hey all, I too am among the many doing a cam swap soon and instead of spending the dough on a ported pump, I plan on doing it myself. ? is does anyone have any pics or experience in doing this themselves, pointers also?

I have done 2 of these. Not really worth the effort. When you take it apart you will see why. All you can do is radius/smooth up the inlet hole and remove any flashing or casting lines in there. I bought a special hone from snap on to enlarge the relief valve bore to help with the sticky valve syndrome. You have to polish the bore after honing with some aluminum polish so that the valve will move smoothly. Then remember to shim the spring 'cause honing the relieve valve bore will bleed off some pressure. Like I said, I have done 2 of these in the past, but the new motor I just built just got a new GM pump straight out of the box. IMO porting the pump yourself is a waste of time and if you are buying one it is a waste of money.

You may get some other opinions like "it is cheap insurance" I was just giving my opinion. I just spent over $3000 on a new motor and I didn't bother with it.
