Default Ported my tb

Got the dremel out and finaly got it done. It definatly pulls better and tm really sucks on the shifts. Filled up & did a ton of cruisng and I hit 230 miles at a 1/2 a tank, maybe 18 to 19 mpg?. Cept for a couple of free mods this is all Ive done(5.3 ecsb), least till I can afford Hpt and a laptop. Anybody whos n/a should look into this mod.

Sorry, I dont even own a camera but there are how-to pages with before and after pics. Most give vague directions but once u get going ul c y. The problems were getting the cc cable off (I sprayed wd40 on the adjuster screw and backed all the way out), I didnt drain enough coolant so it leaked after the lines were unhooked (if u did the bypass this wouldnt be a problem or drain at least a gallon or more), & the biggest pita was the prebent coolant line on the right side. I couldnt get leverage on it so I slid the clamp past the metal and just went back and fourth with a pliers to get the f'n thing of. Theres 3 plastic nuts, 2 electric connections, a vacumm line, & throttle cables. None of the parts stores stocked the gasket so I special ordered one (it was a Felpro for $6). Turns out the original was in great condition, but get 1 just in case. I used worn out carbide bits to grind off the ridges and I knifed the front edge of the throttle plate. DONT do any work to the holes as this affects ur idle and gets enough airflow. I polished with wire wheel. Buy a dedicated bit cause I used 3 that I had lying around and it wasn't like a knife through butter. Some pics show the shaft ground all the way down but the directions I had did not know how to get the shaft out so I dead ended in the same spot. As for hawging it out, it depends on how much time u got. I wanted to drive so someday I will go back in and finish the job. Im pretty happy but my mpg seems to droping cuz my foot got heavier. Its like $80 to get a pro job and the dyno has shown 10hp and better response but I think I got most of that. Clean ur intake, mine was full of carbon but I waited just to see what porting would do, now I know so I should have done it. Just take ur time and it will all be good.

Im not sure how much it helps, but I did mine as well. It took me 3 times to get it looking good. I used a dremel and took out as much of the ridge in front of the Tb blade with a carbide cutter as I could. I then went to town on the area in front of it. I removed as much material as I could. I then went to a grinding stone and then went to a rough sandpaper bit followed by a smoother one. At that point I used some very fine sandpaper and smoothed it as much as possible by hand. I then used the polished wheel things to polish it real nicely. It took me a couple of hours for stage one and then about and hour each of the other 2 times before I was happy with it.
I spent the first 45 min cleaning all the carbon buildup from behind the TB.
As mentioned dont remove any material from underneath the blade, just in front of it.
It takes some time and mine still doesnt look as nice as the sponser on here that does it for like $65 or $70 shipped. Bo White is his name. They look awesome.
