Are ported heads worth the money?

Default Are ported heads worth the money?

i have a 5.3l whippled, z06 cam, Lt's, ory pipe, and i was thinking about getting a set of heads, which stage and what kind of gain can i expect.

Definaly power is in the heads. A Stage 1 would be plenty for your setup but they would need to be specificly for boost for the best application.

Sure is/are, WCCH is a sponsor and I know he has a nice 5.3 program, he has always treated me right

I agree. Make sure you shop for heads specific to blowers or turbos. You will not see the same gains as the NA folks but there will be some. I just posted the same question in the Forced Induction section.
Look for heads with emphasis on exhaust work and smoothed combustion chambers. Avoid shaved deck heads or ones that increase compression ratio, could cause detonation and KR. Stage 1 should do nicely. You could also look for some stock #317 - LQ9 heads, they have a larger combustion chamber, bigger intake valve, and "D" shaped exhaust port that will flow much better. They also bolt right up and have the exact same mounting pattern so the blower will slip right in. You can find them fairly cheap if you look around here or eBay ( about $200-300 if someone needs the cash ). My two cents....
