It could be a connecting rod knock. If this noise is a rod knock, it would be the first time I've heard one on a Gen III motor.

sounds like a rod to me pull the sparkplug wires off one at a time if its a rod bearing the knock will go away. if it aint to bad. thats what i did when i spun a rod bearing in my honda. mine would knock when you would rev it up but when you let off and the eng reved down it wouldn't knock.

Sounds like a rod from the vid.. Did you pull plugs and look for any signs of piston? Dont see spray on the mod list.. Is the mod list complete? When did it start?

I agree that it is something in the bottom end. At this point, I don't think it really matters. Either way its' gotta come apart and gets at least rings and bearings. I wouldn't keep revving it like that personally, it could come apart and kick a rod and/or damage the block. At this point I would disassemble, check the pistons, rings and bearings. I'm sure at that point it will be obvious what is making the noise. At this point its all guess work, it's just who gets lucky and gets to say I told you it was....

There was milky stuff in the catch can, milky foam on the oil cap, a bunch of sludge on the top of the valve covers, and it is eating up coolant. It is a head gasket for sure, but we are trying to find out if any one knows what might be wrong with out having to tare it down to nothing. I have told him to start shoping for a 6.0.

Thats probably the cheapest solution. Just buy a good 6L longblock and don't waste any money on the 5.3.

This is the cheapest I've seen a LQ9 for, plus you get a transmission.
