How much is it going to cost for the heads to get milled? He was suggesting you spend that money on the better cam instead, not in addition to the machining.

I honestly believe that you will have a better performing engine and be happier in the end if you run a aftermarket cam with the stock heads vs. the LS2 cam with or without upgraded heads(run-on sentence??? lol). Swapping the cam is not hard to do, but it is definitely time-consuming and a lot of work. For that reason, it's wise to pick cam that suits you well or one you may want to "grow into."

Almost forgot to ask, That LS2 cam has the camshaft sensor reluctor ring on the end of it, right?

Take a look at post #10 in this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...e-ls1-ecm.html

I dont think your ls2 cam will work. stock ones dont have the cam sensor reluctor in the back of it. now, the rest will work. I would say do the head work, and do a small cam, or LS6 cam. mill the heads .030" and get the comp up. run a .040" cometic h/g, and that would put you around 10.25:1. Or run a stock h/g, at about ~10:1. You dont need big valves to put in those heads unless you really want to.

you can use an ls2 cam but you will need all these parts to work

06 gto (or any ls car 06 and up) timing cover and cam sensor (80 bucks on ls1tech)

ls7 cam sprocket(30 bucks at dealership)

racetronix ls2>ls1 cam sensor harness

http://www.racetronix.biz/itemdesc.a...2-CSAH&eq=&Tp=

youll be good to go with that

i know a kid that has an ls2 cam on an 05 5.3 extended cab truck with a 150 shot and stock torque converter and stock heads 3:73 gears and ran 12.9 (nitrous has alot to do with it though lol)

ok thanks, you guys talked me out of it! good thing too, it seems like extra 120$ to run the LS2 cam makes the cam about 200$ by itself, so its not the great deal i thought it was and like i said i agree that the cam is a poor choice, just thought it was a good deal for cheap... i am going to pick up the springs and valves though for 40$ cant beat it... so now i need to find a cam that will work with the LS2 springs... i like that SDPP build but it seems a little pricey for a 5.3L, and they are using superior heads to what i have... the truck is also a 2wd and mine is 4wd so the 1/4mile comparison wont be of much help either... funny thing is i was looking at that cam a couple of days ago but i dont want to spend $375 on the cam when the rest of the parts needed may be more then that... btw are the ls2 yellow springs good to .570" or .550"? so the search for a good cheap cam begins... if anyone has a good cam they will let go around $200 shipped then pm me or post here... and thanks to fasrt for this -> "mill the heads .030" and get the comp up. run a .040" cometic h/g, and that would put you around 10.25:1" i will be having this done as well as the bigger valves installed with some porting and a valve job, in the distant future a point of compression should be good for 5 percent power increase and im sure any bigger cam will like it... for now ill concentrate on a finding a good cheap cam and getting my efans /catback installed... btw beatdown i live by "runon" sentences lol

Stock48 knows his stuff..
I have one of his 215/215 561/561 114 turbo cam in my 6L and NA it pulls hard and has a good bit more low end.

Send him a PM and get his thoughts on what the cam should do with your setup.
