Polished my valve covers, coil brackets?

OK here's the pic with the TB that's still in process. Anyone wanting to do this I'll tell ya up front it's a bitch. Unless your set up to sand and polish allready the cost would be too much. One tip though is to get a B&D detail sander called the mouse with all the attachments, its a labor saver.

No, jewlers rouge is for gold and silver, not very aggressive. The trick is to sand ,sand and more sand. Start with the finest grit you can but in the case of these v/c they are rough so I actually started with 80 grit then move up the grits to 120, 220,320,400, 600, then 1000 and even 1500. then comes compound, first tripili with a ragwheel, then white with a cotton buff. To keep from wearing grooves in the soft aluminum always work across the previous strokes in right angles or "x" pattern just like body work.Use round rolls for rounded surfaces and a rubber block or flat sander (jitterbug or mouse) for the flatter areas. The shinner the work gets the dirtier you get but a little work here and there and you'll have a nice piece.

why the hell is it we can't buy a nice set of fab. aluminum or even chrome covers for the Vortec without spending nearly a paycheck? Is it really that hard to manufacture a center bolt version that makes it so cost prohibitive? Or is it just that there isn't enough demand? I just don't get it. If they can make adapters for older style retrofits they can make covers REASONABLY priced. What about chrome dipping them, anyone done that?

gonna look into powder coating a set...then maybe chrome plating the coil brackets...
cuz the vc's aren't the only thing that are high dollar...
have you priced the relocation brackets?

Looks good man, thats alot of work. I was getting frustrated when I was just sanding, smoothing mine to paint. Are you thinking about having them powder coated clear or spraying clear on them so they don't get dull..

Painted my entire 4.8 "Chevy Orange". Once installed, you couldn't see hardly any of it because the engine sits so low and is covered with accessories. For my 6.0 I didn't bother. Planning instead to get or make some coil covers this summer. Can post some pics of the 4.8 if you like (or I could even sell it to you cheap
).
