I agree, this would solve it, but to bore the 4.8/5.3L to the size of a 6.0L seems like a lot. Do you think the smaller 4.8/5.3L block would hold up to that size bore? I think I would rather bore to the 5.7L, just for block integrity. I do believe this will fix the "piston slap" problem, and give a nice power gain too. I just think GM should pay for it, not me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

For all who are interested in oil analysis's, I use Titan Laboratories. Essentially you order a kit (a bottle, a label and a postage paid mailing box).

When changing your oil, let it pour for a few seconds and then insert that bottle into the stream of draining oil until it's full. Seal it up, put the label on it with your name, rank and serial number. They ask what kind of vehicle, mileage, engine, and what brand and weight/viscosity oil you put in prior to this change.

In about a week, you'll get a printed analysis of the results.

You can order them at www.titancheckup.com

Ok, lets try this again.

Here is the last printout I received from Titan. It was on my Aurora which is the only one I currently have handy.

If that doesn't work, just link to it;

I have been trying not to chime in on this, but here's my $0.02...

My slapping/tapping/metal-on-metal noise is there at cold start, warm start, or when idling in the staging lanes after running the heck out of it. Although I can't "document" it, the sound seems to be getting worse/louder as I rack up the miles (currently around 25K), and I'm really considering not modding the motor anymore because I'm getting worried that the dam motor's going to throw the pistons at me!

I don't think that the noise that I'm hearing is the cold-start noise that the dealership says that it is. And, to top things off, the dealership that I got the truck from just closed! Guess I have to start all of this over again....

Thanks for listening--Scream
