Default Piston slap fix? I find this hard to beleive...

Saw this thread posted on www.fullsizechevy.com. Do we have any GM techs that can validate what this guy is saying?

http://forums.pickuptruck.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Boar d=UBB11&Number=199968&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o =&fpart=1#Post200116

Any help is appreciated...my truck makes noise ALL of the time and I can't wait to get it fixed if this is true!

Interesting to say the least. Lemme see what I can find out. Know what that means don't you.... There may be a few engins to be had for cheap core charges from the dealers unless GM wants them back.

Didn't even think about that! Hmmm, time for a new 4.8L AND a 6.0L swap?!?!?!?! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

My buddy works at a Chevy dealer, and he said:

"nothing written in stone yet--only rumors and speculation---usually when something leaks out actions do follow"

Lemme know what you find out Greg!

This is what I have found out so far:

The 100,000 mile warranty may be offered in some cases. A documented history and case must allready be in effect or made. They will send you a component coverage letter for the "engine" only. The 100k does not apply to the rest of the truck. There is also a TSB on it at the dealers. It is not vin specific, but does list the code for the most common ocurances. It also states that it is most common in the 5.3 and 6.0's. They told me if you have issues, you can get a case started by going to your local deal and calling 1-800-222-1020. I called a few dealers and they also said they are not replacing engines ... Yet. But no-one, not even GM would give me an indication that that was going to start replacing engines either. Hope this helps a little. I'm still waiting on a little more info.

After speaking with some high up people a few month ago, I obtained the 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on the parts of the engine affected by the piston slap. It took a few weeks to get, but I got it. It will be void sometime in the next 2 years due to some cam/head work, but its nice to have until then! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
EDIT
ok.. just read the other forum: If the new engine thing is true... I hope I can return the 8 year warranty in trade for the engine, but its kinda hard to believe that GM would actually replace a ton of engines.

<img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> Okay Guys!

The Phone number of that Dealership in San Diego California is 1-858-642-4100. The Dealers name is Miramar Pontiac & GMC. They said they are replacing engines just depends on how bad the engine knocks. You guys may know some more questions to ask.

Call and let us know.

Thanks Lee Stroud!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />

like you said you need a history of it. been to the dealer many times and i did mention this the first time but i guarantee you no one wrote it down. and i now have 27000 miles. but fixing to do a swap to a 5.3. so it would be nice to have a fresh spere motor sitting there incase something happens to the 5.3.
