Default Piston Slap - Are the 2003s better???

I was just wondering about the dreaded piston slap issue. There is much out on the forum on this issue and I did a search.

A couple of things I did notice: The TSB posted in one of the threads as to the affected engines, is only listing the regular fuel version of the 5.3, bit not the FlexFuel (85% Ethanol compatible) version of the 5.3 (VIN code Z). Is the Flex Fuel version better/different??
Second, are the 2003 truck/SUV engines any better??
I have a 2002 Suburban Z71 and my wife has a 2001 Trans Am......the Burb is quiet, but only has 2,900 miles on it.....the T/A has about 13,000 miles on it and a little piston slap but not bad at all and it is not getting worse......

No the 2003's slap like a deisel! GM has not fixed this problem yet! My dealer is going to try to fix my 2002 Camaro LS1 piston slap with a rebuild.

Are you sure it's piston slap? I thought I had piston slap on my 01 and found I did not. I had more of a moisy lifter or something. I heard piston slap on an 00 Chevy and boy was it loud. Mine was just a slight tapping noise. This truck with piston knock was a loud metal to metal bell sounding noise. Just terrible in my opinion. On my 02 I do hear engine noise but it's even quaeter than 01. If you want to read more about this issue you might want check this site out.

I have seen the Pistonslap.com web site and the sound clip sounds just like my Camaro does. I pray My 2003 Silverado does not ever do it but some times I can hear a very quiet rapid knock when I slow down for a stop.

My truck only has 750 miles so far and no slap yet. When does it usually start? Evil and I have talked about the first oil change mileage. A couple of people whoose opinion I respect said keep the oil that it came with for 4000 miles. I'm going to do that and add if necessary. So far it hasn't used a drop. Did the same thing with my wifes 03 Infiniti G35. Changed at 4000 miles for the first time and it only used about 1/8 a quart. Hasn't used any since. Will be going to Mobil 1 when I change it.
