flowmaster sounds great, but limits flow (some cases limits over stock)...
exhaust: take the plunge, go for full length headers (Pacesetter Headers, texas speed and performance's web page is on the sponser list), get rid of the cats, y-pipe to magnaflow, hooker aero chamber, or anything other than flowmaster... or you can go full length headers to no cats and do true duals, its up to you
long tube headers will go for about $400 shipped (give or take) and than mufflers roughly around $50-$125 (depending on brand and if its one or two mufflers)... exhaust shop work probably around $200-$300 IF you install the headers yourself.
anything quality intake will do.. k&n, aem intake, etc. ($225-$255)
Custom tune from wait4me performance (another sponser)... $75 to send him your pcm or $157.70 shipped if you get him to make you a new one with his custom tune for your mods.. and thats free lifetime updates.
are you doing gears and a rear end or anything? or is that what your going to do for right now?

well i my problem is i did alot to my T/A and it gave my nothing but problems, i don't want that to happen with this truck, plus i use it for alot of hwy driving and offroad type stuffm would like it to be faster but don't want to go extreme, that is why i was going to stick with shorties and leave the stock 373's
also what more would it take to get it into the high 14's?

Nelson tune for sure I love mine. I had a nelson tune, 3000 stall true duals, intake and I was running 15.1s. You cant go pacestter lts cause your truck is 4wd. Have to find some used lts or sometihng. Dont waste your money on shortie headers they are a waste.

Every inch of me hates t.u. with a passion.
Shorties are a waste because your stock exhaust manifolds are pretty good, and you would get negligible gains from them. Seriously, either go long tubes or go home. It won't be easy to run 14s in the Z-71.
A custom PCM tune is worth around 30-35 rwhp (thats what mine resulted in). In order, i would do the following:
tune
long tubes
magnaflow catback
intake tube (CAI doesn't do jack, just change the tube between the box and the throttle body.
