PCV question

i lost 3 exhaust valve seals on some More Performance heads...there is no doubt in your mind it is a problem...at idle the smoke is pouring out of the exhaust. You are losing alot of oil IMO, I just can't imgaine it coming from bad valve seals. I only would lose a quart every 2500 miles.

Well I think I only have a few possibilities left.
First, could have been a combination of leaking intake rocker bolts and PCV, but I don't think so. It's not smoking any less now, and it wasn't smoking any less when I removed the PCV lines.
Second, could be bad ring seat. Compression/leakdown test will tell me.
Third, could be bad valve seals.
Fourth, could be improperly sealed head gaskets. Compression/leakdown test will tell me this also.
Fifth, could be cracked head. I have not heard of any problems with TSP's CNC program on GM castings, so I doubt this. I did see a lot of issues with oil burning when they were using the Dart castings, but that was almost a year ago and they have since stopped using Dart.
I can't think of any other way that oil could be getting into the cylinders.

I vote for a ring seating issue, but only because you're down on power. What were your rings gapped at? What kind of rings did you use? Maybe try a thicker oil and see what happens for a temporary fix.

I'm not sure what the gap was, but I think maybe .002? Does that sound about right? Gapless stainless top ring, ductile iron second. I'm already using VR1 20w50 oil...what would you recommend?

Have you done a compression and leak down test yet? Hoping that you end up with an easy fix, I hate it when someone puts alot of blood, sweat, and dough into a project just to have to re-do it

No I was really busy with other stuff this weekend, and this week doesn't look much better....as of right now the only time I have free this week is Friday afternoon.
I was thinking though - even if it does turn out to be a ring seating problem, it will give me a good excuse to go with a smaller dish piston and bring my CR back up. Trying to look on the bright side.....
