Default Parish8 question? ConRod Bolts...

Hey bro, how long has it been since you changed out your rod bolts?

What brand did you use again?

What are your comments on the below:

Anyone with information on this would be greatly apreciated. I am assuming the std ARP's are still going to be an improvement over the stockers.

I think the factory bolts are the ones that are stretching like what you're thinking. Any ARP rod bolt would be better than the stockers.

from what I've been reading stockers are good to 6500rpm, 01------>and up.

Its not that the ARP bolts stretch, its the force that it takes to get them to stretch the necessary amount before final torque is applied, causes the rod end to be out of round.

here are the bolts I've been looking at:

A2236: LS1 Replacement Rod Bolts
Now in stock! Katech LS1 rod bolt upgrade - extensive testing by GM for the ASA engine package showed the production rod bolt was the weak link in the stock bottom end in LS1 engines. Our rod bolt is the best you can get and fits production connecting rods. These direct replacement bolts are made from M11 material for extremely high tensile strength with threads rolled to J graded tolerances

Usually when new rod bolts are put into place, the big end needs resizing because they make it out of round.

i have heard this and was concerned too but many people just slap them in and have good luck so that is what i did.

i probably have 5000HARD miles on these bolts. i didn't resize and they are the standard arp rod bolts. i did the torqe and loosen 3 times trick and that is it. when i was nitrous only i was shifting above 6800 but now with the turbo i am shifting at 6400max.

The whole re-sizing thing applies to rods that use conventional rod bolts with a nut like a regular SBC. Simply removing a capscrew bolt like ours and replacing it with another doesn't distort the rod like pressing out and in the bolts in a SBC rod does.
