Parish8???....In-line pump needed for 6.0 swap???????
#1
6.0 to go in soon. Will I need an inline pump, if so what kind or the whipple boost-a-pump. I am basically building a similar setup to yours. Let me know if I am leaving anything out.
2001 6.0- coming in 1 week
whipple - sitting on the 5.3 ready for swap
ASM longtubes - in the garage
Yank 3000 - in the garage
LS1 fans - coming off other car in garage soon
possible 3/4ton radiator??
Will the boost levels change with the motor swap, and will I need a different size pulley if so. And of course the above question about the in-line pump.
Any tips on the swap would be great. Thanks a ton for your time. ANYONE responed if you have some good info.....not limited to Parish.....but he is the man!!!!
Oh yeah, I will be getting it tuned shortly after.

do you have a fuel presure gauge?
i dont think you will need a pump, i would spend the money on a gauge though. it is easy to see the presure dip with a gauge.
i got a pump when i was running the 6.0 and 8psi, i was seeing a dip in fuel presure at the top of each gear but it was not tuned perfectly, i was running way rich and dumping alot more fuel then i actualy needed. with the proper tune i bet you could go 8psi and not loose any presure.
bottom line, get a gauge!! even if you got a pump you would want to... get a gauge!!!
if your going to keep going with it you should just bite the bullet and get all the tuning stuff and do it yourself. everytime you want to goto the next level you will be wondering about your tune but if you have all the stuff to do it yourself you will know.
6psi, then 8psi, then 50shot, then 75shot, then...... it is nice to tune as you go.

Yeah I already have a gauge....so I will just install the motor and go from there. About the tuning...I am very curious about the LS1edit....I have a computer and don't mind spending the money, I just don't have much knowledge in any sort of tuning...but am willing to learn. Anyways, how hard would it be for someone to figure it out on there own, and could I seriously screw things up If I make a mistake??? And can you adjust for tire size gear ratio with edit? THANKS!

it isn't too hard to figure out will all the help you can get around here. i didn't know anything about it and was able to figure it out, i figured out how to do most of it by doing searches of old posts. to do it yourself you will want ls1edit, atap and a wideband of some kind, for me that was about $1600 total but there may be cheaper options for the same stuff now. it was worth it though, the peace of mind from know what my air fuel ratio actualy is and being able to adjust it.
with ls1edit you can adjust for gears, bigger injectors, shift points, idle rpm, timing, a/f ratio, turn off a bunch of diganostic stuff like the rear 02's, EGR... there is alot more that it can do but that is most of what i did with it.
if you have a gauge dont even get a pump till you see it start diping, i dont think you will need one just yet.

some info on the tuning tools, with ls1edit you can save some money if you go in with up to 3 other people, drops the price to something like $250ea. the wide band will most likely be of use on any future project you dive into and the ls1edit and atap may even work depending on what you buy next.

It's a little easier if you get Edit ahead of time and start learning. That's what I did, and I still don't know squat. Lots to learn. Of course with a similar setup to Parish's truck, he can prolly get you close.
