I would lay under it and bang with the bottom of your palm around the cats to see if one sounds different from the other. Might be able to hear one is denser sounding then the other. Also the film just appears to be normal engine compartment dirt. Since the boots are silicone they attract grime and dirt easier. You will notice the same color debris on the power brake booster line.

Thanks! Yes you're right about similar material having said film.

I have banged on the cats a bit but I couldn't hear anything but I'll check em again. Thanks for the input, man.
