P1336...but worse

i've actually been out of town on business for the past 2.5 weeks & just got back this afternoon. that's why trying to figure this out has been all ***es & elbows because it happened a couple days before i left. the first thing when i got back, though was test out the OBD interface i bought last week for my computer. the only code for the new PCM was the P1336 (as expected), and the original one had none.
of course, the battery was starting to get low now after so many start attempts a couple weeks ago followed by a sudden rash of 5º highs while i was gone, so i got a friend to jump it with his 200A alternatored Suburban.

and, of course, i picked up a fuel pressure kit on the way out there. boy, was that some good & bad news! so the good news was that after a couple primes with the old PCM, i was able to get it to try & run for a good 10-20 seconds sometimes. the bad news was that it seems like the problem is that my fuel pressure is in the toilet (highest we saw was about 18 with a spike to 25 once), which of course makes it gasp & hiccup 'til it dies.

what i don't get now is why & why without warning & why at the same time that i swap PCMs? i don't run it low on gas hardly ever, and i'm pretty sure the fuel pump was replaced when i bought the truck this time in 06 (only 72kmi ago), and that was only because the fuel level sensor was bad. the next guess would be a really clogged fuel filter, but i just replaced that 3400mi ago in Mar, so it's basically new.

I believe it's just an unfortunate coincidence of time...

My question would be. If the pump was replaced, What brand did they use?

yeah, i'm starting to accept that. i also ended up calling my uncle today (owner of the shop who did the work) & he was pretty sure we only replaced the fuel level sensor since the pump was running pretty strong & i was a broke college kid.

that said, that'd make this a tick under 200k and 16yrs on the stock pump! HOLY GOODNESS! i picked up another Wix filter yesterday and a Delphi pump for just under $270 today & the worst part is that the only shop not wanting $400+ to swap it out are full til 2 Dec.

the cherry on top is that we just got a few inches of snow dumped on us again that melted & refroze this afternoon i gotta say, after the handfull of tracks i've drove & mountain runs i've made in the car with multiple trips well over 150mph, the scariest drive ever was the 12mi from work @ 25mph tonight!

i really wish i had the tools, time, & heater to do this myself on Thanksgiving.

I used to be able to swap a pump in like 15 minutes on a truck when I worked in a shop.

its not too bad if you remove drivers side bolts and only loosen the passenger side. After that carefully use blocks of wood to tilt the bed to get you enough room to remove the pump.

yeah, i could get the bed up that way... and might could actually beat the retainer loose & do the swap - it's more that i'd have to go out & buy some more tools, find the energy to work on it after 12-14hrs at my job, and have the willpower to sit in my unheated garage when it's 20º with 40mph winds.

with everything i've got going on in life right now, i'm ready to just pay a shop.

haha, thanks. that won't be happening any time soon. waaaaaaay too much of my life invested in Penny to get rid of her for something this trivial.

besides, i can't keep doing this much longer

yay - it's got a new Delphi pump in & running fine for a couple days now
put the new PCM in & runs fine minus the CASE relearn, which i'm just gonna find a shop to run the scanner on locally.
