So if you put a 5.3 crank in a 4.8, it would raise the compression and/or create valve clearance issues. Does anyone know how much compression change?

The 5.3 dish is -5 cc.

If you wanted to add compression, then either do it in the pistons, or change the castings.

milling the heads is the cheapes way I would of had to pull the whole engine to change pistons or castings

It wouldnt change the compression it would just lengthen the stroke and increase the cubes since the bore is the same on both engines. Compression is a figure computed when the piston is a top dead center, has nothing to do with displacement.

where did you get that info from Id like to read on it. Im wondering why gm did that Im guessing to keep compression down?

Ican verify that the 4.8 pistons are flat. I blew one up and had it torn down. Also, the 6.0 pistons are dished as well. Got 8 of those sitting in the shop.
