I really like the feedback on the comp 265 cam. But was considering having it ground on a 112 for a choppy idle?
Also i seen somewhere on the net that tge high lift verison wasnt recomended for the 5.3?

That would be because the chance in the IVC event. The low lift is going to have more low end due to the IVC event being sooner.

I would just go with a custom grind tailored for exactly what your wanting, instead of taking a off the shelf grind specs and changing them for lope. Even if you did want to use the XE high lift lobes I would tight up the split of the cam since you are planning headers in the future, based off how the 5.3L heads flow. If you stick with stock manifolds keep the split to help evacuate the exhaust.

There are better lobe profiles out there now and higher lift will also help your low end out, which your really going to want/need.

Brian Tooley, Patrick G, or Geoff.

You exhaust setup also makes a large difference the the lope you hear, as does tuning, timing and idle speed.

Here is a 215/222 .603/.596 115+3 in my daily LQ9, a very mild mild cam.

Lope...

EPS 215/222 .603/.596 115+3 with stock muffler... - YouTube

No lope... (same cam)

Sleeper... - YouTube

Personally the one I recommended will be pretty darn close to what any of the guys I just mentioned will recommend. With the variation of a slightly wider/tighter split, higher/lower lift, and tighter/wider LSA. But they will all be in the same ball park and perform very close to the same.

Also if you tighten the LSA you will have your HP fall off sooner and less TQ off the stop. A more narrow powerband.

Get a converter first. I don't care what these guys are telling you, camming first especially with out headers a mistake...

Yes and no.

He asked what cam to go with and said he may go with headers/stall later...

So that is why he got the answers he did.

Will agree headers are a great supporting mod for a cam and should come first. And if you plan on a larger cam then a converter should come first also or @ the same time as when you install the cam, this is not true if you go with a cam that will work well with as stock converter.

The cams recommended other then the 220/220 will work very well with a stock converter. Some will ague that the 220r is great with a stock converter but unless you roll race that is not the case.
