Default Opinions Please on truck track times

well, my reaction times sucked. It was very busy and I only got a few runs, but each time i kept getting a little nervous at the line... . I think overall they are pretty good times for a 7000lb truck. I didnt try the rev and mash it option this time because i was still just a little worried about making the entire run in 4hi. Now that i have done it and the butterflies are wearing off, i know i can get this truck close to 13's. We still need to do a little more tuning, better reaction time, and if i rev up and mash it..... i think i can get darn close to 13's. Do the 60' times and other points on there (other than the reaction time ) look pretty consistant? Anything jump out at you? Good news is there was absolutely no vibration from the front drive shaft in the entire run, so next time its no holds barred. It just seemed i should have had a better time based on those 60' runs.

Also, if i could get the shift points changed on this Allison trany, i think it would help alot too. The thing doesnt rev up much at all when shifting. Cant wait till someone has the codes to change the Allison's. Almost like i need to manually shift this thing, but i didnt have enough time to try everything i wanted to.

just is offtopic, but you should check out www.easternfbody.com and the forum there since we are all locals it has a friendly truck section

the et's dont look bad.. if the 60 could get a tad better you would be in the 13's with good air. What was the temps when you ran? This weekend sukked for ET's since it was HUMID for march

Cant remember the exact temps, definately in the 70's or better, and pretty humid too. I think if my reaction time was better, i would get a better 60' time too. Thanks for the link, im in the truck section over there now...LOL.

R/T has nothing to do with track time what so ever... R/T is just how quick you react to the tree. You can set their for 5 mins and as soon as you leave the line thats when the clock starts for your ET

now if you are racing another truck that runs say a 14.4 and you are running a 14.4 also, then R/T comes into play. If you R/T is .500 and say the other persons is .700 then you would win because you left .200 quicker than the other person, but yet you both ended up running 14.4's

the better your R/T in a close ET race the more chance you have of winning...

watch pro stock racers.. they normally run the same ET's so it comes down to who can cut the best light
make sense

Kinda what I was figuring for your first time out...maybe a little slower. I said between 14.2 and 14.4 before I think. I'm sure with a little tweaking and a little more seat time you will be in the 13's. Nice times for a BIG TRUCK like that. No shame there.

If you are leaving in 4wd you might want to bring it up against the converter...power brake it. That way the RPM's are a little higher.

deffinatly stall it up as much as possoble so you just barely, I mean BARELY break traction. I think you shoud be able to pull off a low 1.9 high 1.8, which would probably get you to the 13's.

Good 60' times for stock stall. With a small stall the best I pull is 1.9X.

Thanks guys, yes i did launch in 4hi and it was pretty awesome... I had my brother in the truck, spare tire still attached, step rails on the side, and a few things in the bed so i know if i really wanted to, i could lose a few hundred pounds right quick. I dont think those few hundred pounds are gonna be a big deal considering the weight of my truck, but i will at least lose the passenger for one run next time and see whats what. I feel kinda like a drug addict now...LOL.
