Default Opinions on new custom grind cam????

I bought some worked 862's to go on my truck, they have bigger valves, worked combustion chamber (58cc), dual springs (good to .650), Ti retainers, etc, etc... they will be installed with a .04 head gasket. I was thinking about swaping out the cam to get the most out of it. Since the combustion chamber has been altered and the compression raised to ~ 10.25, I figured i could up the DCR even more with a new cam since the heads/combustion chamber can handle it...

I came up with this:

220/222 .581/.581 @ 110 +2 or +4 (XER lobes)

The reason I choose the XER lobes is because I have read that it will broaden the TQ range and help with making idle and idle tip-in better, thus making it easier to tune. I wanted the 110 for a couple of reasons, first it will sound cool, especially with the added compression and it should increase the MAX TQ, which the 4.8 desperately needs.. I have not decided on the +2 or +4 yet, but the advance should bring the TQ in sooner, just how soon is the question... So from what I am thinking this cam coupled with the heads should make good low end and mid range, the duration should keep the power until roughly 6000-6200...

My current setup has a DCR of ~7.4 and an overlap of -1*, the new heads and cam should have a DCR ~8.4 and overlap of +1*... So the static CR should increase ~0.7 and DCR should increase ~1.0...

Sound like a good plan?? The truck is not DD so that is not a problem. Also i do my own tuning so that is not really a problem... Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

What stall do you have?

I'd go with atleast the 224/224 myself.

you said you were wanting to go with a converter like mine right? You're gonna want a cam that revs out a little higher than that.

Well my current verter flashes to about 3000-3200, it is great for my current cam and previous 220/220... I don't think the 224 would provide the lowend and midrange I am looking for.....

Yep I want a verter like yours, but I am not going to buy one until my current tranny dies... I don't want my tranny taking out a brand new verter.... My current cam makes power until ~6300 according to the dyno, my previous cam made power until 5900 so I believe the new one will be somewhere inbetween the two...

I like those cam specs combined with your compression ratio, should be a good combo. I think that the tight LSA will help to bring the torque on sooner as well as help provide a nice peak torque number.
