Default one more EGR question

alright i have too much exhaust duration and desperately need some LT's. i have everything listed in the sig but i dont know if i have egr or not? i know when i buy some pacesetters it wont have egr but i dont really want to go get retuned after the install. what will happen if i run with no egr headers? just a check engine light? or is there something i'm missing

its a 2000 so you have an egr for sure....if you take the egr out you will just get a engine light..... all you will have to do is tell the tuner that the egr is gone so he can take care of the light.... but either way you will want to retune for the headers anyway........ and all pacesetters have a egr fitting on them.....

they do? well thats good i guess but would it still be good to leave the egr disconnected? or would it be better to plug it in again? what will the tuner need to do differently for the lt's? i thouhgt exhaust mods didnt need to be tuned for?

LT's dont NEED to be tuned for but its really a good idea to get the full benefit of the mod. As for EGR if you have strict emisions laws in your area its a good idea for you to leave it connected...if you dont, tell your tuner to delete egr and get LT's that dont have EGR and leave it disconnected. If you leave it connected there is a mod where you can make it less of a restriction on the intake by pulling out the EGR pipe that goes into the intake manifold, (two 10mm bolts holding it)...hacksaw off the added section of pipe that pretrudes into the intake manifold and that will eliminate the air restriction but will still allow for the EGR to operate without throwing a code.....

yea im not too worried about the emission laws, i read about that mod where you saw off the pipe but i thought egr it self recicrculating the hot exhaust gases was inefficient. good to know that i can just leave it disconnected. if the LT's have an egr spot, is it bad for me to leave that bung open?

DONT leave the EGR hole open on the Header or on the intake manifold!!!....plug the hole on the intake manifold, plug the hole on the header (there is a plate you can get for that) or get headers without EGR!

Yes you need to plug it. there is also a factory plug for the EGR at the manifold. Then you can pull the hole EGR assy. off your truck for good.

sounds good, what would be the gains with a header and i left my egr active as opposed to one where i remove the assembly?

Well for one the engine would look much better without the ugly EGR crap..... and that is a good enogh reason for me.

where would i find all the egr stuff? i think i just take off the vortec engine cover and then its some tube going down into the intake manifold? i just order a factory plug for it?
