which one?
I am getting ready to do a cam swap and I am stuck between the two. 99-TR220/220-112 or 99-TR224/224-112. It is going in a 2004 silverado ext. cab short bed, 5.3, CAI, Pacesetter LT and blackbear tune. I am looking for somthing to get some all across the board numbers and I am not worried about gas mileage. Also what stall would you suggest, this is a daily driver. Also what springs and pushrods should I go with? I know everyone askes this but I am new about cams. Also how hard are they to do compared to an old school gen 1? Would a haynes manual help?

Easier than Gen 1 since you don't have to drop the pan.
Tr220 gives power from 1500-6500, tr224 is 1700-6600. You'll definitely need good springs. PAC dual springs would be a good choice.
Circle-D 3500-3600 stall would by a nice compliment that still lets you drive around town without destroying your mileage.
The choice on cam is up to you really. both are proven cams but how high do you want to spin your motor and how much hauling or towing do you do?

Either cam will work fine, both have been proven time and again in the 5.3's. Get some beehive springs like the comp 918's and some 7.4 length hardened pushrods. You won't need dual springs but you can install them for peace of mind if you want to. A stall in the 3000 to 3600 range will work good with either cam you choose.

I agree, get PAC springs (I think they're 1218's or something like that), I've seen too many broken Comp 918's.
