I can't see how they would fit. I had to lift the engine just to fit the 1.3/4" long tubes I have that were made specifically for this truck. Installed there is barely a half inch clearance all the way around.

James B.
Please give me some details about your application.Like the year model of the truck and engine Cubic Inch. What brand of header and the part # that you used. Was this a Half ton Truck with the TBI 5.7 or the Vortec 5.7. I would like to know before I buy new headers. Mine is a 97 , Powered by a Edelbrock E-170 headed 385 C.I.D, with a edelbrock pro flow manifold for vortec heads,Comp XFI Cam 224/230 576/570 113LS,11:1 comp ratio, LS1 throttle body and 30 lbs injectors. I think long tubes 1 3/4 headers are needed. Would you agree. I am selling the thorly tri y's because the 1 5/8 tube does not fit the exhaust port of my ported heads very well but they worked ok when i had the factory heads. I would value your oppion. thanks, Jon Goodman

I know it has gotten good reviews over on fullsizechevy. However I would be looking at a set of headers and a custom tune/ 0411 pcm swap before I went with the vmax, as they are a better bang for the buck.

If you had a bore scope you could look down in the spark plug hole of the suspected cylinder and if the head gasket is indeed blown the piston will be completely spotless and shine like a brand new one. Water has some pretty insane cleaning power when its burnt.

As for the heads the stock heads are 170's. All you would be gaining is not having to do extensive port work to the exhaust side and saving a lot of weight if you went with aluminum heads. I spent a day working on my heads in my garage with a POS air compressor and dremel tool and really opened up the exhaust ports. My port work may not be as effective as buying new heads with redesigned ports but I saved myself a lot of money and I squeak more then the tin man when I walk.

I would go with the Felpro shim gaskets. I don't recall the part number but they are .014 inches thick, one single thin piece of metal with some type of coating on them. The pistons sit .025 in the hole and with these gaskets you get a quench of .039 which is just about ideal. Made all the difference in the amount of spark advance I can run with mine on 87 octane.

It would be a lot of work but getting a single plane vortec intake would be another option to the marine intake. It would take a lot to make the emissions equipment all work if it would work at all and you would have to buy injectors, rails, and make a harness for it but it would work well in the end. Basically something similar to the Edelbrock or Holley EFI retrofit setups.

Hooker Competition Series 2452 hkr, 2462 1hkr and 2462 2hkr use 1 5/8" x 2 1/2" tubes with 16 ga. walls.

Hooker Super Competition Series 2806 hkr, 2806 1hkr uses 1 3/4" primaries and 3" collectors with thinner 18 gaige tubing.

Both will work on the 88-95 trucks and if you weld on an EGR bung and O2 sensor bungs will work on teh 1996-98 trucks and 96-2000 Hoes, Burbs and 3/4 ton 1 ton trucks with Vortec 350/305. You can delete EGR if you dont want to weld in the EGR bung, this is what I did.

You can use any intake manifold you wish, so long as you supply teh PCM with the sensor data it needs. My marine intake works well and I gained power/torque at all rpms on a stock longblock/cam.

peace
