Was the 89' fullsize different? I had a 5 speed 94 S10 TBI, I revved it out to 5500.

with a 350?
Sounds like one out of a Iroc.
Edit: I think automatics were lower than Sticks as well.

well there's a few companies the do "chips" for your year truck.you could go with bigger tb,long tube headers,intake,tune.that should get ya started
