oil pan gasket question?
#1
ive nevrr had the oil pan off of an LS1 or Gen 3 engine. what kind of gasket do they have?
im wondering b/c i am gonna drop the pan on my truck this weekend, need to know if i can just bolt it back up, or if i need to get a new gasket or just a little silicone on the rails?
do they use a one piece gasket? or do they just use silicone like some of the other makes of new cars use?
im gonna be installing the cam, timing chain and new oil pump so ill have to drop the pan a little bit, not take it all the way out the truck.
can someone give me some insight on what type of gasket these things use? CHIP

You should stroke an LS1 into 383 cu in and slap it in that Slopar and call it a 383 Cuda. J/K But I did always want to do that...the bodystyle you have is a good looking car.
Anyways, the gasket in question is a 1 piece metal unit with the rubber sealing part made on it. It is riveted to the pan in a couple places to keep it from getting out of place. I have re-used them many many times over with no probs, I would say you are good to go.
FYI.....you do need to use a new oil pump O ring, never ever re-use it unless you want to have oil pressure problems.

lol, thanks for the compliment and "suggestion" on my car
i think ill leave it like it is for now. Hemi power is next to go into the 'cuda, not one of these new so-called hemis, i mean a REAL Hemi. how does a pump gas 604" hemi sound?
cool, so i can just reuse the old gasket, sounds good to me. yep ive got a new o-ring for the p/u tube. thanks for the info man, preciate it! CHIP
