OIl and Oil Filters
#1
I have around 11k miles on my truck and I want to start putting Royal Purple Engine Oil in it. My problem is that I want a higher quality oil filter that what can be found at Autozone. I looked for a K & N Oil Filter but could not find one to fit my truck. Is anyone running a performance oil filter? Can yall suggest a brand and place to find them? If not, what would be your first choice for a filter from the local Autozone?
Thanks!!

I think the Royal Purple is a good choice. That or Mobil One is what I like. As far as the filter, I would stay with the AC Delco. I haven't heard any negatives about them on the trucks. There is a rumored check valve in the PF59 that out trucks use that other brands don't have. I really can't tell the differance. The PF58 fits, but doesn't have the check valve. Unless you have a high compression race engine, the stock oil filter is best IMO. Besides, the K&N is over priced and wouldn't suprise me if they are made in the same places that some other filters are made, just with a K&N stamp. Just keep it changed every 3k.

I have used Mobile1 and a PF59 since 6000 miles and have not had any problems. I have also heard that the Delcos are about the best you can get for the new trucks and the 59 does have the check valve that no others have.

You can argue all you want about how cheap GM is with their interiors and other stuff, one area GM doesn't skimp on though is their oiling and filtration systems. If they did skimp in this area, they would be out of business due to all the warranty costs of replacing engines due to an oil related failure.
With that said, if they feel an AC filter is sufficient on a Corvette, it'll be more than sufficient for my needs! I keep a full stock of PF44, PF47, PF52, PF58, and PF454's for my fleet of vehicles.
I've racked up hundreds of thousands of miles between all my vehicles simply using Valvoline dino oil or Mobil1 and AC filters and have yet to have a major catastrophic engine failure due to poor oiling or filtration.

PF59 does have the check valve, I checked with AC Delco on that, when I wanted to find out about a replacement for the PF58, which is the PF61. But you would be better with the 59... one of the best filters out there.
I regularly use RP, because 6 qts of RP is less than $2 more than 6qts of Mobil1.

hopefully the k+n didn't increase wear because of crappy filtration
