Oil leak on 2001 6.0
#1
I know we had a thread somewhere before, but I cant find it anymore..
I have a 2001 6.0 in my tahoe. Rear main was replaced a year ago when I got the trans built. I have a oil leak that leave a spot in the driveway every night. I can look in the inspection cover of the trans, and everything is clean and dry so its not the rear main. It seems to come down both sides of the trans and motor.
Certain mornings I get wierd oil pressure readings..sometimes down below 15, somtimes over 40...my normal pressure is right at 40 when driving...
From a previous thread, I heard this could be the oil pressure sensor behind the intake? sounds right with the irratic readings and the oil leaks down both sides of the bellhousing..
Can I pull the intake and replace the sensor without replacing the intake gaskets? I dont really feel like dropping over $100 for the gaskets..
any ideas? what else could it be? it would have to be a head gasket causing the leak, but then it would only leak on one side

You can pull the sensor with out pulling the intake. I did mine that way. Its a little tight but it can be done. I have heard that erratic oil pressure can be due to the o-ring in the oil pump could be old and worn out. Mine has been doing the erratic oil pressure as well and the sensor is about a year and a half old. I too have a small leak but haven't looked into it too much yet. It doesn't drip but just keeps the bottom of the pan looking slightly damp. My next fix will be a new oil pump and o-ring. When the o-ring is bad it can pull air into the pump causing oil pressure varences.

it only flucuates in the morning, right awayand its bouncing all over the place.....after a few minutes, its steady at 40, 60+ under heavy throttle...the motor only has about 95k on it...i might try swapping that sensor..
