rob, do you have ramps or a steep incline? i found this works the best to prevent the mess. i used to do the oil change on a semi level surface and had the same problems with the Z71. i changed mine for the 1st time on ramps a few weeks ago and didn't noticed any mess. plus you get more of the oil out i think. doesn't work so good on my mom's intrigue. the drain plug is in the front. anyone ever tried changing the oil on an olds intrigue? it sucks, especially w/o ramps or a lift. the filter is different. it is like an insert. hard to find anywhere. had to go to a GM dealer at first, then i bought out autozone when i found out they had STP fitlers for the olds for $2.99. the filter is flush with the oil pan so it is hard to get an oil wrench on that bitch

Default Oil Filter Relocation?

Has anyone done this yet? If so, where did you put it? and where do I get a kit?

My '95 Jimmy had the filter mounted horizontally, and that was great! Alot less mess that way. Just wondering if it was possible to do that on these trucks. Especially 4x4's, when I change the oil now, it drips right on top of one of the skid plates, not to mention all down my arm.

I usually jack the front end up a little, which helps with the oil coming out of the plug, but when I change the filter... it still makes a mess!

That's a good idea I guess. I think I may have to look into this situation. If I come up with anything, I'll post it.
