I USED to only run Mobil-1 Synthetic in everything, its great oil, just that I change my oil every 3k miles, Castrol 10-30 does fine for both trucks...ACDelco filters only...

I am using Amsoil 10W30 ATM and a Baldwin B1432 ( = PF59 ) filter. I am changing using the GM Oil Life Monitor and it will be at 15000Km = 9375 miles.

Don't use any additives like lucas or slick50, unless your engine is on the way out and you want to experiment.

Use synthetic 5w-30 and a good filter such as amsoil, mobile 1, or puralator pure1.

I use amsoil 5w-30 in all my cars w/ an amsoil oil filter. I change my oil and filter every 6 months or 10,000mls. 6 months usally comes first.

Amsoil costs about the same as mobile 1, and less than royal purple, and I beleive is the best of the 3. It gets delivered to my door via UPS.

BTW. before swithcing to synthetic, add a quart of marvel mystery oil to crankcase and drive about 1500mls. It will clean up your internals very nice. The marvel actually cleared up an oil cunsumption problem on my 00' 5.3.
