Octane?
#1
I was wondering a few things. First, what is the best octane booster to use? Second, is it better to use the booster, or find a station that sells 100 or 104 octane? I know of a place over in columbia (20 miles from me) that sells 100, just wondering if its worth the ride, or go with the booster? Or now that i think of it, would it show any difference in performance at the track to be worth the ride or money spent on the higher octane?

Boosters are a waste of money from what I hear, all of my teachers in school say that there are test results showing they are all crap. Toluene is supposed to work pretty well but I would say your best bet is to mix in some racing fuel with your gas. Higher octane doesn't make too much of a difference if you are not detonating or anything though. Also, too high of octane can make it run worse.

The best octane boosters on the market will only give you about 2 octane #'s increase. The higher the octane the fuel the slower the burn rate. If an engine doesn't need the higher octane to prevent detonation then you can actually make less power with a higher octane fuel. Gas octane is a misconception most people have that it burns hotter or makes more power. I had a friend years ago with a dodge stealth and said his ran best with 89 in it and had less power with 93. He was dumbfounded until I explained to him what the higher octane is for.

You will make the most power/run the most efficiently using the lowest octane that you can (without pinging). At least that's what I've heard, and it makes sense to me. A higher octane rating means it's harder to ignite, so it seems that you'd want the easiest thing to ignite (that won't cause pre-ignition). Just my $.02.

octane is a combustion inhibitor.

The question was what is the best octane booster. The ONLY octane booster that I have found to work is this

Also you can mix 1 gallon of xylene with 4 gallons of 93 and make some pretty good gas. You really shouldn't need anything on 5 psi.
