OBX LT's.....trouble fitting?
#1
Okay, After reading alot of threads about these suckers, I believe this is the way I want to go for my system. (I really like the idea of the fake "catted" Y pipe" for visual inspections) I read several of you on 4WD's had trouble fitting them and had to bend one of the primaries?
My truck is a 2WD so thats all im concerned about....so my question is.....you 2WD guys, any trouble fitting? Leaks? rubbing anywhere?
Also, any installation tips for me?
Thanks guys

You should be fine with a 2wd. One primary will probably be very very close on the passenger side. May require a small dent in the primary to avoid rattling on the frame, but it is minor. The front drive shaft was the only major problem on my 4x4.
Installation tip would be to go in from the bottom with both sides. Some say that taking the inner fender well out makes it much easier and it probably does, but I didn't do that.

I have a SSS AWD and my OBX's fit like a charm I mean perfect and the hardest part was removing my stock exhaust. I put mine in from the bottom up with no problomes what so ever! I was also using air tools. Good choice man these headers are sweet.

Ive had my OBXs on my 2wd 5.3 for about 2 weeks now.
Ive had to get longer plug wires(MSDs)
Take the drivers side firewall heat shield off
Take the y-pipe out again to tighten the clamp then install it in as one piece
The only time they rattle or make any noise is at a certain rpm especially when turning at low speeds or when about to come to a complete stop.
I thinks its rubbing against the passenger side frame where there is only about a half a millimeter clearance.
Im very suprised they arnt a lot noiser for the headers being that close.
I think the passenger side also has a exhaust leak(I can hear it tick from around there) It might just need a retorque on the header bolts.
How is the sound with your OBXs does it have a popping sound on light acceleration?
Does anybody know the primary and collector size for these headers also. (are they desinged for a stock, lightly modded truck?)

If you can take the trans crossmember off to pull the stock Y-pipe out.
If you can't or don't want to do that you can get by with pulling the heat shield off thats right above the Y-pipe and the rest of the exhaust.
The fit is tight but you can get the stock y-pipe out buy taking that off.
But it would be a lot eaiser if you could get the trans corssemember out of the way.
You will be suprised how easy the headers go in from the bottom. The gaskets that come with them as far as I know look like there not leaking.
But ive heard the stock gaskets will never leak so your probably better off using them.
Take your time putting in the y-pipe and before you put it in make sure all the pipes fit together (they should slip inside each other) and the clamps fiit on them good. And if you want to coat all the connections with some sensor safe rtv gasket thats what I did.
