Default o2 Problem

On my way home from work I keep hearing this sound like a chain is draggin. Well after I get home I lay down and look under the truck and see an o2 Sensor hanging down. So I pull it up on the ramps and let it cool before I go crawling under there.

Once it get under there, I see that the sensor is still in the bung on the exhaust but the wires and the heat shield(?) have pulled out of it. Is this something I should be concerned with right away? The front o2s do all the work correct? If this isn't something I have to deal with right know, should I tuck the wire and heat shield(?) away, or should I unplug it and remove it? Also, I would assume it is ok to leave the actual sensor still pluged into the exhaust. If I take it out it will sound like a leak correct?

Anyone know what could have caused this? Sorry for some of the ignorant questions, but this is new to me. Thanks

the rear O2 moniters cat efficiency, so you will likely get a CEL no matter what until you replace it, but for now, just leave the O2 in there till you get a new one, if you pull it now you will hear a sound like a exhaust leak, just tuck the wire out of harms way till you get a new one

Thats good news to hear. For now its just tucked out of the way. Anyone happen to have the part number for the rear o2s so I can check some prices. I know they are going to be more than I want to pay, but oh well.

Are you outside of the emissions warranty? If the sensor fell apart and it was not due to accident or abuse it could be covered under federal/state legislation.

Up here I believe it would be covered for at least 60,000 km(40,000 miles). Specified major components such as cats and PCMs must be covered for 8yr/130,000km.
