Default Noob questions here

Hey guys as mentioned above I am new to the truck world I currently have an ls1 camaro so I know quite a bit about the lsx motors however im not familiar with who makes good products for trucks. I have an 06 silverado crew cab 4wd Z71 with the 5.3 in it. I am looking to do some bolt ons but I just dont know which manufacturers to go with. Basically I want to maximize my gas milege I am only averaging 16.5 mpg I was thinking about doing LT header removing the cats and doing exhaust. I will do a CAI and have the truck dyno tuned. Can you guys let me know who makes the best products and will the mods I am mentioning help my MPG? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I read all of the stickies and didnt really find any specific info.

LTs depend on how much money you want to spend. pacesetters are a good value for the money but arent of as high a build quality as others.dynatechs are a stainless header but come with smaller primaries(1 3/4" compared to 1 7/8" on others) stainless works are a high quality header and you will pay for it as with the dynatechs.

exhaust is 90% personal opinion. get what sounds good. flowmaster = bad

intake, get a enclosed filter element like a volant, outlaw, aem brute force, air raid, K&N, etc. dry filters are easier to maintain than a oiled one

headers will help your mpg some, along with the intake and exhaust. the tune will really help it.

thanks for the reply isnt 1 7/8 overkill? I know on my ls1 I lost power when I went to a 1 7/8 header over my 1 3/4 also i would assume 2.5" exhaust is fine. Would you recomend getting rid of the cat for increased power and fuel economy? (Im not worried about emissions) what kind of power do these trucks make with these bolt ons and a tune?

full boltons and a tune are approx. 330-340rwhp through a 60e auto and 10bolt rear, most of the time also has approx. 3,000stall

either 2.5" duals or 3" single exhaust

Alright I installed my volant intake Sunday and it seemed to pick up very minimal gains in power which i expected however I did pick up 2mpg now I am getting ready to order some headers It would seem the pacesetters are the best bang for the buck. My question is this they appear to have no egr etc.. which is fine because I dont plan on running cats. Where can I get an off road Y pipe and what do I have to do with the 02 sensors? I know the headers have bungs however do I need to get sims or can I just have the rears deleted through tuning? I would also like to order my muffler at the same time I want to run the magnaflow 14" oval now they offer many different variables of the inlet and outlet positions does anybody know which is the correct one? I plan on doing a single 3" set up. Thanks

You can either get sims or just have the rear O2's shut off in the tune, most people just tune them out.
The i/o on the muffler isn't really going to matter much, I got mine where they are both in the center. Seems to be the best position, but either way it will fit under the truck. Are you going to dump it from the muffler or take it out the back? Either way shouldn't matter tho, you can just spin the muffler into the proper position, there's plenty of room. I believe Dirt_track_racer had two ovals standing upright side by side and then dumped.

Edit: I got my ORY off summitracing. it was about $150 bucks. You can also just have a muffler shop custom fab one for you.
