Default Nitrous vs Cam heads

I am thinking about buying a NX dry shot, was planning on getting a bigger cam
and better heads but I use my truck as a daily driver and would like to keep gas mileage. What kinds of HP gains can I run safely with nitrous on stock fuel system? Only programmer I have is a Hypertech PIII
Running on a tight budget.
May spray 2-3 times a month.
Any suggestions on what kind of Dry system and where to purchase?

Thank you

I would just go cam and NX wetkit. It is much easier on your fuel system and the gains are much better.

Heads are too expensive for the little gain they provide unless you have a hookup. $1700+ for a 20-25hp gain is kinda weak IMO. I been there done that.

what type of heads were they and what motor did you run them on when you got your 20-25hp from them?the 5.3? just curious

Nah, not on my truck.

Just seen too many dynos on F-bodies where they dyno 390-400 with just a cam then with heads they rarely do over 420 unless they do some really trick stuff or use better than your typical $1700 heads.

If you wanted to go cheaper you might look into a set of milled 6.0L heads. They flow better than the LS1 heads and if you mill em you could see some nice gains for under $1k I would think.

Anyone know what your compression would end up at if you were to find a set of 6.0L heads, mill them .030 and stick them on a 5.3L?

Probably near stock I would think. If you drop the LS1 or 6.0L heads on our trucks it would lower the compression. At least I know this is true of the LS1 heads. So by milling them you should end up near stock or maybe close to 10.0:1 unless you milled them heavily.

Am I way off in this?

You could probably run a 100shot dry without much trouble but I would make sure and dyno it with a wideband once you go that high to ensure you don't lean out. I watched 4 guys lean out on our last dyno day in their F-bodies. 2 with dry kits 125hp and 1 with a wet-kit 100hp (made 200hp extra though ).

The main problem you wil run into is your stock injectors are gonna be too small if you do heads/cam AND nitrous. I bet your duty cycle is gonna go through the roof.

With just a cam I am already running out of injector.
