Default nitrous on the vho

well it's looking more and more like this christmas I will be doing nitrous if my money comes through. I have a few questions about how much of a shot I should run on the lq9. Also the only other mods will be a exhaust and probably a mail order tune from nelson. I was thinking about a wet shot around 125-150. should I have any problems with this? also thinking when I do run it I should wait to hit it until 2nd gear?? what do you guys think? I would like to be inthe low 13's.

Are you going to run full timing?? I wouldnt go much over a 125 until I had a scan tool to monitor things. Im sure Nelson could set you up with an appropriate tune. If it were me, Id spary as soon as traction permitted and run a window switch to cut the N20 off right before the shift.

well with these goodyear tires on here I don't think a 1st gear hit will work(could be wrong) I think traction will be a serious issue in first. That and I know the 1-2 shifts are really hard on these trucks when making some power. If I can jsut totally bypass that I will.

I run a 100-125 shot, but don't spray it too often. mwalls sprayed his SS to a 12.3x on a 150 shot. The motors handle it pretty well, the transmissions have a little harder time.

BigTex, you know my motor as well as anyone on here. (Wonder why? ) Anyway, I've been doing some serious thinking about the spray. I really don't want to tune for spray. because this is going to be a "track only" type thing, unless I run into the wrong car or truck. Anyway, I would be looking for something to go with the nitrous setup to cut the timing only during spray. What is it I'm looking for that will pretty much plug and play on these trucks? Also, it's been said that I need a wetshot due to my current injector setup. Do I need to go ahead and get the upgraded injectors, or will a wet shot be safe enough to run like it is? I'll be getting a laptop with autotap this winter to keep an eye on things, so do I need to hold off until after I get this? The next mod I'm getting(sometime this month) is an Eaton, so I'm talking at least Dec or Jan before I can finish the bolt ons and see where I'm at. I really want that low low 12 on motor, but if it doesn't happen.....

If you have the Tow/Haul button I have heard that Westers can actually tune the PCM so that you have control over the tune with that button. So, I guess you could have the regular performance tune and then push the tow haul button to run a "Nitrous tune" with less timing. I think it would be worth a call to find out for sure. I know for sure they can make changes to the shift points/firmness using the tow haul feature, I am just not totally positive that it can also control the tune of the engine. Like I said, it would be worth a call.

Interesting! Anybody else know about this? I think I'll give Allen a call tomorrow and see what he says about it. Thanks man.

tow haul button cannot retard timing. lyndon= you will have to get a timing tuner slow if you want to pull timing. it will turn it off and on if i am not mistaken. i am running a 150 shot with 30* timing. no kr. but i do watch it closely. i am wondering if pulling timing will actually help but a 12 is kinda not making me wonder about that to much.

Oh well. The only reason I brought it up is because there is a guy on Chevytalk that had Westers change his shift firmness using the tow haul feature. Thought it might also be capable of holding a different tune as well.

Jeremy, you have a couple of choices. The one 02denali mentioned would work fine. Its a device that cuts back timing when the nitrous is running. Another option is more in the tune itself, but would take some logging and effort to get right. If you ran a dry shot, the MAF will see that as more air flow. You can set higher timing in the MAF flow areas where you run on motor, and then back off the timing in areas above that where you would be on the spray.

Personally, I usually just spray on my normal tune, but its not more than a 100 shot and I don't do it very often.

Getting a laptop and logging software would be good especially if you plan on going with the nitrous.

I'm still impressed with the 12.6x on motor.
