Default Newbie to the trucks, what are the basic mods?

Never going to get crazy with the truck. That's what my Camaro is for. Just would like to do some simple things to get a noticeable increase in power and acceleration.

For example, it's well known that a new air lid on an LS1 f-body is one of the best bang for the buck mods you can do. I would also put Mac headers up there among the good proven mods. Of course, for A4 guys, a stall converter is one of the must do mods.

For starters, what's the best intake/airbox mod?

Derrick

P.S. It's a 2003 5.3L Silverado Ext. Cab Z71 4x4 SWB w/ 3.73's.

The UPD air intake will be a great first mod. There are dyno proven results of it over the FIPK kit. Headers are also a very nice mod for these motors{ same as your ls1 just smaller} . You can get a Yank truck thruster 3000 stall that will still give you full towing capability. Enjoy your truck and I will warn you, as I am sure others will as well, Once you start modding you wont stop.

Your basic intake, exhaust, and tuning make a nice difference. Really depends on budget/hp goals.

HA! I stopped modding my truck...well wait until I get a Duramax.

So the UPD air intake is kind of the Direct-Flo lid of Trucks, eh? That'll probably be first on my list then. Good suggestions, very good. Thanks for the tip on the stall converter too. I don't know if I'll ever stall my truck but if I do, that sounds like a good one.

So, which headers and cat back seem to be the most proven AND FIT WELL?

Derrick

A magna flow catback is gonna be one of the best systems out there, I am switching my chokemaster to magnaflow in a couple of weeks.

I just ordered a UPD as well, what are the rwhp / rwtq dyno gains with that addition?

You will need to get a hold of Greg the mod { fast4.8} and he has the dyno numbers for it. IF i remember right it dynoed 6rwhp over the k&n FIPK kit. When i installed my UPD I could feel a seat of the pants power gain right off the bat. Throttle response was better and al around it was better. I cant hear it now but you can hear the motor alot more now.
