Newbie with a question
#1
I have been lurking in your threads for a while and figured I would actually register today. I have a question, I have a UPD but am contemplating selling it for a FIPK or volant because it was quite difficult to put on and I don't want to have to remove it every 2 years for smog and would rather have one with a CARB exemption number, how much worse is the performance with a FIPK or a volant vs. a UPD. Thanks for any input in advance!

Since you have an 03' you need not worry about smog until nearly 08'. Yep ... that's right. If that is your only reason for want to change, you may want to wait a few years

At least in California, vehicles do not have to be smogged until they are 5 years old.
From the www.dmv.ca.gov Web site:
New vehicles exempt until their fifth year
Vehicles four model-years old and newer (model-years 2000-2003, for registrations due after 1/1/2003 ) are not required to have a biennial Smog Check performed until their fifth year. However, these vehicles must have a Smog Check performed if the vehicle is sold or being registered in California for the first time.
